Obituary for Kenneth Jackson Jr.

Kenneth L, Jackson, Jr., age 90, of Rochester, NH, passed away on March 14, 2024 in Florida with his family by his side. After suffering a stroke in early December, his main goal was to complete a planned move to Florida, his family made sure this happened and that his remaining days were as best as they could be and that he was surrounded by love.

Born August 1, 1933, in St. Lucie County, Florida, son of Kenneth L. Jackson, Sr. and Gertrude Jackson, he honorably served in the United States Army for 12 years and has resided in NH since 1966, moving to Farmington in 1973 and then Rochester in 1997.

While stationed in Europe, Ken met the love of his life, Joan, in France in the early 60’s. Together they had four children who they raised in Farmington, NH. He was so proud of his family and would often tear up when talking about them.

Ken was not one to sit idle. After retiring as an R&D Engineer from Davidson-Textron in Farmington, he continued as a consultant for several years before opening his successful sawmill business in Rochester, that he ran up until the day of his stroke. He would not only mill the lumber for post and beam barns but would also design them. He was so proud of the things created from his lumber. His keen ability to salvage as much wood as possible ensured nothing went to waste.

Those that know Ken would describe him as determined and one of a kind. He would do anything for others, especially the “little guy”. He would give you the shirt off his back!

Ken was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, where he was honored as a 32nd Degree Mason. He was particularly proud of recently receiving his 50-year membership pin.

Ken is survived by his wife of 58 years: Joan L. Jackson, their 4 children: Glen L. Jackson, Janel L. Ohletz, and twins Jennifer A. Sonricker and Janice M. Jackson; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

He will be missed by many. Per his request there will be no formal service. The family will gather in New Hampshire this August to spread his ashes at a special spot he requested.
