Barbara Smith Vest, 82 of Geneva Florida, passed peacefully in her sleep Monday, March 18th 2024, ending her battle with breast cancer. Barbara was surrounded by family and friends throughout the last several weeks bringing much joy and happiness to her last days.
Barbara will best be remembered for her fiery red hair, larger than life heart and compassion for others. She was active within her community with the Oviedo Women’s Club, the Geneva Homemakers Club, Great Day Celebration, and her church family as an active member of the CrossLife Church Choir and 1st grade children’s ministry. In over 30 years of faithful service to the church she has touched the lives of countless children and was a positive role model for generational fellowship. Barbara was also an active volunteer with the Seminole County Sheriffs Office (COPs program) conducting comfort calls on elderly and disabled citizens of Seminole County.
Barbara is preceded by her father, John H Smith and mother Evangeline Broome of Charlotte NC, her younger sister, Jacquelin Cheryl Linderman of Lancaster SC and her nephew Jonathan Kieth Spray of Lancaster SC.
Barbara is survived by her husband Gary R Vest of Geneva FL, who she was married to for 44 years. She leaves behind her son David of Hollywood MD, her daughter-in-law, Christine of Murrells Inlet SC, 4 grandchildren, Jason D Seagle (Rene) of Whitehall MD, Justin D Seagle (Hannah) of Finksburg MD, Taylor D Seagle of Chattanooga TN and Jackson D Seagle of Murrells Inlet SC. Barbara is also survived by her 1st great grandson, Walker J Seagle, of Finksburg MD, along with nieces and nephews and their extended families. Barbara’s family extended well beyond the bloodlines to include her dearest friends of the Geneva General Store in Geneva FL.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held this Friday, March 22nd, 2024 at CrossLife Church, Old Sanctuary. Family will receive friends during the viewing from 10-11am, followed by memorial service officiated by Pastor Herb Long 11am-12pm. A fellowship reception will follow the memorial service at 12pm in the Fellowship hall, all are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life and rejoice in her arrival to the Kingdom of God.
Barbara will be interned at Gastonia NC, at a private funeral at a later date.
