Benjamin Hawkins Cheatham Jr passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 4, 2022, at the age of 83. He was born April 27, 1939, to parents Ben and Louise Cheatham in Miami Florida. He met his wife, Dorinda at the University of Florida and they married in 1961. He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics and taught at Starke High School, Brevard Community College, Auburn University, and finally Valencia Community College, where he led a self-paced math program. They lived in Starke, Cocoa, Gainesville, and Auburn, and eventually settled in Oviedo, FL. He loved nature, building things, worried about the environment, believed in equal rights for all, gave generously to charities, and loved kids. He spent his retirement visiting national parks across the country with Dorinda in their RV.
He is survived by his wife, Dorinda Cheatham, two daughters Beth and Lissa Cheatham, and many extended relatives who call him "Uncle Ben" and love him very much.
A celebration will be held at his home on Saturday, October 8, from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. It is open house and any family, friends, or neighbors are welcome to come by. Do not feel the need to wear black. We will be wearing colors that he liked. Donations in his honor can be made to one of his favorite charities: The Nature Conservancy, Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, or Second Harvest Food Bank.
