Obituary for Carl Brantley

Born in Vidalia, Georgia. The only child of James Franklin and Mamie Lou Brantley.

Beloved husband, extraordinary Father and grandfather, special friend.

Carl is survived by Shelva, his wife of 70 years, two sons, Carl, Jr. (Nancy) and Keith (Cindy)

six grandchildren, Amber, Laura, Michael, Matthew, Kacie and Lindsay and 15 Great-grandchildren.

Carl loved the Lord and served faithfully as a member of First Orlando 65 years.

He served in many areas, Deacon, children’s bible teacher, youth counselor and sound

technician traveling on mission trips with the New Wind Youth Group. Never missed

a performance in 30 years of The Singing Christmas Trees. He served on the Building Committee

to relocate the Church in 1985. His favorite was the Audio Tech department serving forty plus years on the tech crew.

Carl was an avid Bull”dawg”, graduated from the University of Georgia, Athens

with degrees in Pharmacy and Chemistry, followed by a year of intern at Georgia Baptist Hospital, Atlanta,

received his Pharmacy license and immediately entered the Air Force to become a jet pilot.

Following time served Carl began his 34-year career with Bristol-Myers-Squibb.

He worked in sales/marketing, management, teaching in local hospitals and

research and development of new cardiology drugs.

He was awarded top representative 10 years, runner-up 5 years and in 1990 the Carl Brantley award was established in recognition of his exceptional career.

Carl’s special love was family and travel. Boating, fishing and camping as sons were growing up covering the US, Canada and Mexico.

Following an early retirement he and Shelva continued traveling throughout Europe.

Visited islands – wherever there was water either by commercial cruises or his boat.

As grandchildren arrived, they were included, “adventures” replaced fancy birthday gifts.

We referred to those adventures as “making memories”!

A blessed life, well lived and loved by many!

Memorial celebration of life is scheduled Saturday, July 19, 11:00 a.m.

Legacy Pointe at UCF, 2100 Hestia Loop, Oviedo.

In lieu of flowers please send gifts to First Orlando, Larry McFadden Ministries or Legacy Pointe Scholarship Fund.
