It is with great sadness that the family of Dirk Alan Nebergall announce his passing on Monday, January 13, 2025 at the age of 68 years old. He was a devoted husband to Piper and a loving father to Dana, Stacy, Wyatt and Haley.
Dirk was born on April 10, 1956, in Champagne, Illinois, to Maurice Eugene Nebergall and Violet Marie Nebergall (Harris). He moved to Florida with his family in 1969 and graduated from Lyman High School in 1974. Dirk spent a number of years working as a Pipefitter-Welder with the local union where he was known for his meticulous welds and undeniable talents. He later owned and operated several local businesses over the years but was most notorious for his involvement with the quarter midget racing community during his operation of Dirk’s Motor Works. Despite his many responsibilities, he always made time for his family and his passions.
Though he may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of integrity, kindness and generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dirk's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He was an auto racing enthusiast and had a deep appreciation of the outdoors, often spending his weekends walking/driving the dirt roads of local state parks/forests or heading up to Georgia for deer hunting with his life-long friends. His love for the joy and simplicity in nature was something he shared with his children and grandchildren, leaving a mark that will never fade.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Piper; their children, Dana Stewart, Stacy Ward, Wyatt Nebergall and Haley Carter; beloved grandchildren; Jaxon, Kasen, Kylar, Logan, Ella, Isla and Indie; his mother, Marie Harris; sisters, Diane Timmins and Debra Hunt, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 10:00 am at Seminole Community Church, 5070 Orange Blvd, Sanford, FL 32771. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Friends of Florida State Forests (FFSF) in memory of Dirk to honor his passion for the outdoors.
We find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
