Obituary for Joan Ann Ross-Magner
Joan Ann Ross-Magner left this earthly realm on August 24, 2021, after a long battle with medical issues. Joan passed away only three days after her 85th birthday.

It would be wrong to say that Joan lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken, Joan stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like.

Joan was an artist, a writer, a wandering spirit that longed to travel, and her knowledge of life and living was endless. Her true legacy will live on in her artwork that she so gracefully shared with others around the world and her paintings in the homes of her family.

Joan loved the ocean more than anything, she loved the roar of the waves at night, skin diving for shells and lobster, catching wild shrimp and cooking on a campfire along the causeways and beaches across Florida. She traveled to Bimini, St Croix , St Thomas , the Florida Keys , Jamaica , the Windward Islands and all over the Caribbean in a sailboat with her beloved husband Larry. She was indeed a Gypsy Soul. Joan will be remembered for her laugh and her witty sense of humor and mostly the way she wrinkled her nose when she smiled and winked at you.

Joan was born August 21,1936, the daughter of Richard Waldo Ross and Evelyn Starr, she grew up in Indianapolis Indiana and was a Member of the Indianapolis Methodist Church. Joan was in the Airforce Reserve , Literary Club and an avid Ballet Dancer in her youth. She was both graceful and poised.

Joan is preceded in her death by her husband Laurence Dean Magner, her Mother Evelyn Starr, her father Richard Ross, her Sister Betty Jo Lewark and her lifetime best friend of 44 years, Ruth C Tierney.

Joan is survived by her daughter Dawn Rivera, her four Grandchildren, Christen Smith, Brandon Blankenship, Valerie Robinson and Nicholas Dloughy. Joan proudly had six Great Grandchildren, Haley Jensen, Hayden Quiet, Nicole Connolly, Theodore Connolly, Liam Blankenship and Elija Anthony Dloughy. Lastly her companion of 6 years Audie , a small brown puppy that loved her beyond measure.

A formal service will not be held, as it was and has always been her wishes to be returned to the Sea, where her youthful dreams were wild and free and her heart was complete. A small family gathering, and a simple send-off, back into the depths of the ocean to swim forever in the beautiful blue colors of the waters. You may visit her there, at the beach, in the sand, in the wind, and in tides as they move in and out. She will be the tickle you feel in your toes when they hit the waters edge. Forever in our hearts.
