In Loving Memory: Mary Elizabeth Voorhees
Mary Elizabeth Voorhees, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8th, after a courageous battle with dementia. Born on November 20, 1947, to Miriam (Witham) Wehler and Emil Wehler, Mary grew up in Fairmont, Minnesota, where she graduated from Fairmont High School.
She went on to attend Huron College in South Dakota, where she met Don Voorhees. They married in December of 1967 and later divorced in 1997. Mary devoted her life to raising her two daughters and was a proud homemaker.
Mary had a gift for connection—she never met a stranger. Her joy came from talking with people, making new friends, and sharing her favorite recipes with anyone who asked. She was a trivia enthusiast, always ready with a fun fact, and she cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her phone and purse were never without photos of her beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter, which she eagerly shared with anyone willing to look.
She is survived by her daughters,Elizabeth (Beth) Barrera, husband David, Kathryn (Katie) Whytal,husband Chris. Grandchildren, Zachary Barrera,wife Catherine, Hannah Barrera-Nguyen, husband Anthony, Noah Whytal, Matthew Whytal, great-granddaughter, Rio Barrera. Nephew Andy Buckmeier, wife Jody and son Alex and niece Heather Deiss, husband Scott.
