Obituary for Michael Thomas McEvers
MICHAEL THOMAS MCEVERS, 71, of Ocoee, Florida passed away on July 5, 2021 at home. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 49 years, three daughters, Kaila McEvers Wiles (Lenny), Erin McEvers, Stacey Anne McEvers Willis, 4 grand children, Kelsey Willis (14), Luke Wiles (11), James “Bo” Willis (11), and Teagan Willis (2 1/2). He is also survived by his sisters, Dollie Ricketts and Sandra Hagan, and several nieces and nephews. Mike was a very active member of the Ocoee Lions Club of which he held every office in the club at some point. He participated in the Right to Sight and the Hearing Boards of the Lions Club. He was also a member of the American Legion. Mike was probably best known as “Santa”. For many years he was Santa in the Ocoee Christmas parade, Santa also went to Health Central Hospital on Christmas morning to visit all patients that were allowed to have visitors and left them a little present, usually a stuffed animal. He was a member of the National Santa organization and as a result he was Santa for some of the BassPro stores in Florida and other states. Can you imagine how many children across our great country have a picture of Santa (Mike) in their homes? He was constantly stopped by children and adults asking if he was Santa and how the reindeer were doing. He told them they were at their summer home resting for the big Christmas Eve night that was coming and that he was on a little vacation. He pulled his calendar out and told them he was checking his list to make sure they were keeping their rooms clean. There will be a memorial service at the Ocoee Lions Club on Taylor Street in Ocoee, FL on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 4PM till 7PM. There will also be a military service at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 2:30. Everyone is welcome.
