NORMAGENE NORENE (OVERMYER) MITCHUM, 88, known as "Norma," "Gee-Gee" and "Nanny," passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at Advent Health Hospice in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
The youngest of ten children, Norma was born to John and Elizabeth Overmyer in Harrison Township, Cass County, Indiana, on November 4, 1934. Her early years were spent on her family's farm before moving to Arizona, where she graduated from Tempe Union High School in 1952.
Norma married William Leroy Mitchum in 1955, and had three children, Renee, Billy and Beth; they would later divorce. In 1956, Norma moved to Florida, and in 1960 moved to the city of Winter Park where she would spend the rest of her life amid the sunshine and a back yard filled with orange trees.
A hard-working single mother who was always there for her children and grandchildren, Norma spent 40 years in the work force with the CCN insurance company, eventually becoming Vice President of Human Resources. Following her retirement in 1998, she spent her golden years enjoying the things she loved most, including oil painting, reading, and visiting Walt Disney World. Her light, laughter and love will be missed by all who knew her.
Norma is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones who live throughout the United States.
