Obituary for Philip Todd Smith

Philip Todd Smith, affectionately known as "Todd," passed away on May 4, 2025, at the age of 55. Todd was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, the son of Philip Smith and the late Joanne "Jo" (Cocchi) Smith.

Todd attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he graduated with honors and received a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a minor in mathematics. He went on to receive his MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. Todd was an engineer for over 25 years and continued his education, taking coursework in his interest in artificial intelligence. Todd landed his dream job at Full Sail University in Florida as a professor teaching A.I.

Beyond his professional life, Todd was a man of many talents and passions. He enjoyed reading, writing poems, and composing music. Todd was learning and mastering the piano. Todd loved hiking, rock climbing with his son, and especially cooking for relaxation. Todd was a chef in the kitchen, teaching his wife and son, passing along his Italian family recipes from his late grandmother (nonna) Doris, and learning Mexican and Spanish recipes from his wife.

To cherish his memory, Todd is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and son, Giovanni; beloved pets, Sophie, Lulu (the dogs) and Snowball the cat; his father, Philip; his sister, Tara Moretti, his nephew (godson) Ethan, and nieces Francesca and Ava; as well as many extended family members.

Todd was predeceased by his mother, Joanne "Jo" (Cocchi) Smith; his grandparents, (nonno) Mario L. Cocchi and (nonna) Doris (Guerra) Cocchi, and Richard A. Smith and Rita Smith.
