Obituary for William Wils Bell
William Wils Bell
January 8, 1955 – September 28, 2021
William Wils Bell passed away at his home in Oviedo, FL on September 28, 2021 at the age of 66, surrounded by his loving family and his beloved dog Lewis. Wils was an all-around great fellow and an easy friend and neighbor to all, always embracing life and lending a hand wherever needed. Wils lived life to its fullest and overcame the many curveballs it sent him with bravery, strength, and a fabulous sense of humor, even joking with his nurses right up to the end.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Wils was a cross-country runner at Terre Haute South Vigo High School, competing in the State Championships, before attending Indiana University where he competed in the Little 500 track cycling race and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. Wils remained an avid runner, cyclist, and golfer until his 60s, when illness interceded.
Following college, Wils moved to the greater Orlando area, having fallen in love with Florida while working during summer breaks at Walt Disney Resort Hotels.
In addition to running, cycling, and golf, Wils loved working around his home and gardens, good times with his wife, family, and his many friends, travel, great food, and spending time with his grandchildren. Until his illness, Wils was a very active member and on the Board of the Twin Rivers Home Owners Association, and was instrumental in mobilizing and motivating other homeowners to be involved in the Twin Rivers community.
Wils spent his professional life as a successful cybersecurity recruitment expert, making a difference for applicants and employers in the then-emerging field.
Wils is survived by his wife Linda, his mother Barbara, his brother Barton (Debbie), his sister Mary Lou, his step-sister Melinda (Tim), his step daughters Monica (Rick), Andrea, and Nicole, his grandchildren Mya, Mason, Tyson, Drake, and Colton, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family. Wils’ step-father Ken and step-sister Chris (Joe) preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Wils’ Life is planned for December.
Our family would like to express our deep gratitude to Wils’ care teams at Mayo Clinic and Neurology One, his long-time speech and physical therapists Shannon and Jason, and Vitas Hospice. Wils wished to die at home and the Critical Care Team at Vitas Hospice made that possible. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Community Connection at https://vitascommunityconnection.org/ or by mail to PO Box 645352, Cincinnati, OH 45264- 5352. 100% of all donations supports local patients, families, and organizations.
