Obituary for John Crumrine
John A. Crumrine, 75, of DeBary, Florida, died on Sunday, August 1, 2021.

John was born March 7, 1946 to the late Robert and Pauline Crumrine. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Cheryl Crumrine, son Chris Crumrine, daughter-in-law Hannah Crumrine; brother Robert Crumrine and sister-in-law Patricia Crumrine of Augusta, Georgia; sister Leita Stephens of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many loved and loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew James Crumrine.

Born and raised in Akron, Ohio, John earned a bachelors degree in history from the University of Akron. After college, he enlisted with the United States Army Reserves, serving six years before being honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sargent. Though his professional career took John in a different direction, he remained a voracious consumer of history throughout his life, and maintained great respect and admiration for those who served in the United States armed forces; always thanking and acknowledging the service of the active duty members and veterans he met.

John spent his professional career as a retail banking executive with various financial services entities throughout the Midwest and South. Starting at the ground-level in asset repossession and as a bank teller, John would go on to be a senior executive leading retail operations for several multi-billion-dollar regional banks in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, and Florida. The majority of his career was spent with BankOne (now J.P. Morgan Chase), where he led various retail markets in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky and was ultimately market president for BankOne Kentucky.

John was an avid community volunteer and firm believer in the social contract that we owe to one another that which we are blessed to give. John served several Habitat for Humanity affiliates in his local communities, and he was a committed vestry, stewardship, and acolyte leader in the various churches where he and his family were members. He also served in various leadership and volunteer capacities with Boy Scouts of America, a service and leadership organization in which both he and his son participated.

John loved sailing with his wife Cheryl and would often regale his friends and family with sailing stories from Lake Erie. He loved to fish and cheer on (or complain about) the Kentucky Wildcats. He carefully and lovingly restored and refinished furniture, and he maintained his life-long passion for American, British and military history.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Sanford, Florida on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes and is deeply grateful for gifts in John’s memory to Halifax Health Hospice in Orange City, Florida - https://halifaxhealth.org/services-treatments/our-services/continuingcare/hospice-2/giving/
