Obituary for Stanley Anthony Kociszewski

Stanley A. Kociszewski

Stan passed away peacefully at his Florida residence Friday, April 12, 2024. He recently celebrated his 93rd birthday and inspired his family as a precious and prayerful husband, father, grandpa and uncle.

Stan’s parents Stanislaw and Antoinette traveled from Poland in 1910 to raise a family of 11 children in Cheektowaga, where he was born. Growing up, Stan enjoyed playing baseball and graduated from Cheektowaga-Sloan High School in 1949. A year later, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and traveled to Morocco, Africa, serving as an aircraft mechanic.

On his return, he worked as a machinist for Moog, Inc. until his retirement in 1993. In 1957, he married Ellen M. Lathrop, a secretary at Moog, Inc. Together they built a home in West Falls and raised a family of six children.

Stan became an avid golfer, competing for Moog, and later for leisure. He served as a marshal for Byrncliff Golf Resort and Holland Hills Country Club. Often found in his garage, he tinkered with endless repairs and created fine wood craftsmanship in the pieces he gifted his children. He also enjoyed collecting coins.

Stan and Ellen retired as snow birds to St. Cloud, Florida and finally resided in Orlando, Florida in 2019. They enjoyed family celebrations both in NY and the South.

Stan was a devout member of the Catholic Church. He became a Eucharistic Minister in 1979 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Colden where all of his children received their sacraments. There he volunteered his time at church chicken bbqs and grounds keeping, forever helping those in need.

Stan is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Ellen, and his children Richard (Christine), late David, Paul (Jackie), Cheryl Spotts (Dr. Theodore Wells), Janet (William) Baker and Mary (Dr. Patrick) Karson. He was an adoring grandpa to Rachel, Nicholas, Sarah, Jeffrey, Megan, Anthony, Madison, Lindsay and Kyle. He cherished 9-mos. old great-grandson Beau and his large extended family.

Private arrangements were made at the convenience of the family. Stan will be interred at the Colden Cemetery in New York. You are kindly invited to share your condolences here on Stan’s tribute wall.
